Morphological Variation of Sandalwood (Santalum album Linn.) on Provenans Test Planting in Site 17 of Wanagama I, Gunungkidul
|
In 1993 Faculty of Forestry UGM has been established the provenans trial of cendana (Santalum album L.) from seven seed sources in compartment 17 Wanagama I Gunungkidul. Until now research on the variation of morphology of cendana in Wanagama I was not conducted yet. In 1989 Adriyanti has examined morphology of cendana in NTT (Indonesia) and clasify cendana into two varieties, cendana with small leaf (Santalum album L. var. album) and cendana with big leaf (Santalum album var. largifolium Rudjiman et Adrie.). Because the seed source of sandalwood’s provenance test has a wider distribution, it is possible if there is variation in morphology. This study aims to determine the level of morphological variation of sandalwood and determine its status in the category of the correct taxon.
The study was conducted in March-June 2005 and October-November 2005. Data obtained using three methods, namely: exploration, descriptive and literature. Furthermore, the data were analyzed by classifying and comparing provenance sandalwood based on morphological characteristics obtained from the descriptions in the field and herbarium specimens.
Provenance test plantation of sandalwood in site 17 Wanagama have two forms of fruit morphology variations, which are: sandalwood with round fruit and sandalwood with flat round fruit. This variation is the difference in the level of form, so that the proposed naming: Santalum album Linn. forma albumglobose for sandal with round fruit and Santalum album Linn. forma depressedfructuc for flat sandal with round fruit.
